Express Entry

Express Entry is a system to manage immigration applications for skilled workers, through the use of comprehensive ranking system. The target processing time for applications received via Express Entry is six months.

There are 3 eligible immigration programs managed through Express Entry:

Canadian Experience ClassFederal Skilled Worker ProgramFederal Skilled Trades Program
• for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience
• work experience must have been gained in the 3 years before you apply
• for skilled workers with foreign work experience
• must meet criteria for education and other factors
• for skilled workers who are qualified in a skilled trade
• must have a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification

How is Score Calculated?

The CRS is a points-based system that is used to assess and score your profile and rank it in the Express Entry pool. There are a total of 1,200 points available under the Comprehensive Ranking System and points are calculated separately for candidates without an accompanying spouse or common-law partner, and candidates accompanying spouse or common-law partner. Factors considered to calculate scoring are:

  • Nationality
  • Age
  • Language ability
  • Family members
  • Education
  • Work experience
  • Details on any job offer
  • Spouse or Common-Law-Partner Factors
